You can also replace AEL with MPE if using irradiance or radiant exposure in numerator.

D is the aperture diameter.

For estimating power through aperture using aperture diameter and beam diameter at distance of interest.

For unaided viewing between 400 and 1400nm, use 7mm aperture.

For aided viewing between 400 and 1400nm, use 50mm aperture.
